Marino Wichman joined the Oceanic Fisheries Programme of SPC in March 2020. Marino is a Pacific Island Fisheries Professional from the Cook Islands spending one year at SPC where his work will primarily focus on effort creep in oceanic tuna fisheries. Marino’s role in the Cook Islands is as the Data Manager, where he is heavily involved with managing the data provisions for both the Offshore and Inshore divisions of the Cook Islands Ministry of Marine Resources. Marino has involvement across several Tuna and Non-Tuna Regional Fisheries Management Organisations (RFMOs), primarily the Western Central and Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC) Scientific Committee and Regular Sessions of the Commission. Marino is aiming to broaden his understanding of tuna management and overall harvest strategy developments and implementation in the WCPO. |
