Information: Claudio joined SPC’s Oceanic Fisheries Programme in August 2020 as a fisheries scientist working on the stock assessment of tuna stocks in the western central Pacific Ocean. Before joining SPC in Noumea, Claudio was a postdoctoral research associate at the School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences at the University of Washington and NOAA (NWFSC) at the Punt Lab. There he worked on the Natural Mortality project and organizing the next CAPAM workshop for 2021. Prior to this he worked as a Research Scientist with CSIRO in Hobart Australia, leading the blue grenadier stock assessment (2018). He did his PhD at the University of Tasmania and CSIRO, demonstrating connections in recruitment patterns across southern hemisphere fish stocks related to differing global and local environmental signals. He modelled the implications of incorporating environmental change to demonstrate its importance for sustainable management of global fish stocks. Claudio grew up in Linares, central Chile and did his Undergrad (Aquaculture and Fishing Engineer) in Concepcion. After that, he worked in the Oceanography Department at University of Concepcion (Chile) on several fisheries projects funded by the Chilean Government. He obtained a Master Degree in Fisheries at University of Concepcion (2010), working with small pelagic fish and environmental variables in Chile.
